Opera Browser Integrates Crypto Wallet And Ethereum’s Blockchain For Web3 In-Built Dapp Browsing

Opera Browser announced today they are about to make dapps mainstream and available to all with the introduction of  Opera for Android with Crypto Wallet.

“Since the wallet is built into the browser, this means internet users no longer need to install separate Dapp browsers or crypto wallet extensions,” they say.

In a world first, they show in a video the crypto wallet as just another option in the Opera Browser menu. Clicking or tapping gives you the option of sending some crypto to the wallet.

Now that you have eth, the video takes us to a shop where a meme-tshirt sold for cryptos through Coinbase is bought by entering no address, nor anything whatever, but by just tapping pay.

The browser is integrated with ethereum’s blockchain. Technical details are sparse, but they showcase ordinary browsing to CryptoKitties and a purchase of one kitty again by just tapping pay.

This is in effect MetaMask, but in-built in the browser. So you need install no plugin or anything whatever. Having the Opera Browser means you have access to the ethereum blockchain.

“We believe the web of today will be the interface to the decentralized web of tomorrow,” said Charles Hamel, Product Lead of Opera Crypto, before adding:

“By becoming the the first major browser to open up to Web 3.0, we would like to contribute to making the internet of the future more accessible.

Our hope is that this will accelerate the transition of cryptocurrencies from speculation and investment to being used for actual payments and transactions in our users’ daily lives.”

No browser has currently integrated ethereum’s blockchain. Even Brave Browser still needs the MetaMask plugin. Opera however might change that.

Pressure on Chrome and Firefox might now rise for them too to integrate cryptos, and especially ethereum’s blockchain so that individuals can easily access dapps. Opera says:

“Anyone who uses current crypto wallets will notice that Opera with Crypto Wallet’s UI is simpler. Typical wallets require the user to create new PIN codes or passwords. Opera instead relies on Android’s secure system lock to sign transactions from the Crypto Wallet, so users don’t have to learn any new codes to start using the wallet.

Opera with Crypto Wallet also supports tokens and digital collectibles and automatically presents them to the user.”
