Serena Williams, one of the world’s best tennis player, has revealed she invested in the crypto broker and exchange Coinbase through Serena Ventures.
“In 2014, (yes I know I can keep a secret) I launched Serena Ventures with the mission of giving opportunities to founders across an array of industries,” she said before adding:
“Serena Ventures invests in companies that embrace diverse leadership, individual empowerment, creativity and opportunity.”
One such company is Coinbase according to the stated investments, giving Williams some exposure to the crypto space.
It is unclear when she invested and how much, but she earned almost $29 million in prize money and endorsements in 2016, making her the highest paid female athlete.
Likewise in 2017 she earned $27 million, making her the only woman on Forbes’ list of the 100 highest paid athletes.
Whether she has any direct exposure to cryptos is unclear, but the athlete is clearly aware of the innovation going on in this space, so taking part indirectly through some ownership of Coinbase.
That makes her the latest famous person to have some relationship to cryptos as they cross the tipping point towards mainstream adoption.
