Decentraland to Hold Metaverse Music Festival

Decentraland music festival 2022

Decentraland music festival 2022

Decentraland, the ethereum blockchain based tokenized virtual metaverse, is to hold one of the biggest digital festival so far with Soulja Boy and Ozzy Osbourne to be among 100 performances.

“Set in a cyberpunk city of the future, the 2022 festival centerpiece is the Tower of Babel,” the project said.

Universal Music France’s Vladimir Cauchemar will perform at that stage, alongside a long line of artists, including:

“Award-winning Chinese idol group SNH48, CryptoPunk Rapper Spottie WiFi, Japanese girl group Atarashii Gakko!, London-based afro and funk band Amadis & The Ambassador, Finnish one woman orchestra Maija Kauhanen, space rock project Handshaking, British DJ and producer Akira the Don, DJ Eddy Temple-Morris’ band Losers and Klezma (Web3 music launchpad) artists inc. K-Pop band 2AM, Israeli DJs and producers Erika Krall and Lian Gold and former Division One athlete PIP.”

This is bigger than last year when 80 artists performed, including Paris Hilton who showed up in an avatar form.

Elon Musk’s ex girlfriend, Grimes, also performed this spring, as did Benny Benassi.

That was during Fashion Week which in a first, had an avatars catwalk showing off new fashion.

Since then however there haven’t been many events in Decentraland as the bear gripped markets with inflation, Russia’s invasion, the rise in interest rates and an ever strengthening dollar, gripping everyone’s attention.

That’s to the point some suggested there were only 25 daily active users in Decentraland, while Decentraland says the actual figure is 8,000 daily active users, and more than 50,000 monthly active users.

Whichever, the platform clearly has not grabbed everyone’s attention to the extent it did last autumn or spring, with it hoping the festival may change that.

“Decentraland is doubling down on music in the metaverse,” the project said before further adding:

“Decentraland’s unique Emotes feature enables any creator worldwide to create custom moves and gestures that bring your avatar to life, and will be a central part of how concert goers have fun through dancing and self expression during the festival.

New motion capture technology will also be demonstrated on this global stage from Move.ai which enables motion capture with no suits and Kinetix.tech that aims to empower creators to make emote NFTs using only a phone camera.

Presenting partner Kraken will also drop a series of NFT wearables exclusive for festival-goers, unveil a pop-up NFT gallery as well as host a special festival after party.”

The timing in November is also apt, a year since the bear began, and since not much is going on, people may well tune in to the biggest festival in the crypto world.

For many, it will be the first time in a year. Any improvement at the protocol level therefore, like connectivity and smoothness which were lagging, will be noticed.

Making it a fairly big day for Decentraland four years on since the project began, and considering the big number of participating artists, it may be a big day for wider culture too.
